Description
What Is a DTF Printhead Cap Top?
The cap top (also called a capping station) is the part of a DTF printer that:
-
Seals the printhead when it’s not in use
-
Keeps the nozzles moist to prevent drying or clogging
-
Sucks ink during cleaning cycles (through the pump)
It’s like a “garage” for the printhead — keeping it clean, lubricated, and protected.
🔧 Functions of the Cap Top:
-
Sealing the printhead to prevent air from drying out the nozzles.
-
Drawing ink during head cleaning using suction.
-
Helping maintain vacuum pressure so ink flows properly.
-
Preventing cross-contamination between ink colors.
🚨 When Should You Replace the Cap Top?
Signs it’s time to replace:
-
Ink is not being drawn during cleaning
-
Nozzle checks show missing lines despite cleanings
-
Ink leakage or dried ink around the printhead
-
You hear the pump running but no ink is moving
You should typically replace the cap top every 3–6 months, depending on use and ink type.
✅ Tips for Maintenance:
-
Run head cleanings regularly, especially if the printer sits idle.
-
Use proper DTF cleaning solution to flush the cap top.
-
Always match the cap top size and type to your printhead model (e.g. Epson i3200, DX5, XP600, etc.).
